A day that starts at sea
In Tam Thanh the day starts while it is still dark. Boats go out at night and come back one after another in the early morning, the basket boats lining up to reach the shore.
When the boats land, the beach becomes a market. Some clear the nets, some sort the fish, some buy and sell right on the sand. Soon the beach is quiet again, with nets laid out waiting to be mended.
A trade handed down the generations
Fishing passes from one generation to the next. Ask the villagers and you will hear about fishing seasons, trips at sea and a love for the boats that have fed so many generations.
